Side & Rear Glass

Door, quarter and rear glass replaced, with the broken glass properly cleared out of the door and not left to rattle around.

The job

Side and rear glass fails differently to a windscreen — usually all at once, from a break-in or an impact — and usually needs the vehicle off the road until it's fixed.

We replace door, quarter and tailgate glass, clear the old glass from door cavities and seals properly rather than leaving it to rattle around, and check the window regulator and seals while the door trim is off.

What's included

  • Door, quarter and rear glass
  • Full cavity clean-out after breakage
  • Regulator and seal check included
  • Passenger and light commercial vehicles

What to expect

How the job runs

The order we work in, so there are no surprises on the day.

  1. Identify the glass

Side glass is usually tempered and rear glass often carries a demister or antenna. We check what your vehicle has so the replacement matches.

  2. Strip and clear

The door trim comes off and the broken glass is vacuumed out of the cavity, the run channels and the seals, as well as off the seats and floor.

  3. Fit the new glass

Door glass is set on the regulator and checked for travel. Bonded glass, such as a rear screen, is fitted with urethane and any demister connections are restored.

  4. Test and clean up

We run the window, check the seals, test the demister if there is one, and clean the cabin before the vehicle goes back to you.

Questions

About side & rear glass

Can side or rear glass be repaired instead?

No. Side and rear glass is tempered, which means it breaks into small pieces rather than cracking, so there's nothing to repair. It has to be replaced.

Will a side window replacement affect my driver-assist systems?

Normally not. The forward camera sits behind the windscreen, and most blind-spot and parking sensors are in the bumpers and mirrors. If your vehicle is an exception we'll say so when we check it.

There's glass everywhere after a break-in. Do you clean that up?

Yes. We clear the door cavity and seals as part of the job, and vacuum the cabin. Tiny fragments can still turn up for a while, but the cavity is where most of the glass ends up and it's the part that causes rattles.

Send the make, model and year (or the rego) and what's wrong with the glass. We'll confirm what it needs, including whether the camera has to be recalibrated, before you book.
